Green Party of Ohio Articles

Alan Crossman is a new member of the Green Party, making his membership official in the May 4th primary. He comes from a family of Progressive Democrats, Independents and Greens although his father has always been a moderate Republican. Alan is openly bisexual although he says he identifies most as “transgender”. He is comfortable in his own skin, with a personal confidence that has been nurtured by a loving and supportive family.

THIS ARTICLE WAS TAKEN FROM A DISCUSSION ON DAVID ELLISON'S CAMPAIGN PAGE ON FACEBOOK.

This is only my understanding of the history. Others may be able to add detail or variations on the story.

The European Greens had made great strides into national parliaments propelled by their anti-nuclear weapons organizing by the early 1980's. They rose to international prominence at this time. Petra Kelly and others articulated an anti-nuclear, pro-environmental and socially just political point of view.

My interview with David Ellison began with a history lesson. David was one of the founding members of the Green Party of Ohio, the GPUSA (The Greens/GPUSA) and eventually helped Ohio associate with the ASGP (Association of State Green Parties). He was initially inspired by the peace demonstrations in Europe that were organized by the Greens at a time when then President Reagan was advocating a limited nuclear war with the Soviet Union.

The Summer of 2011 will be a summer of action in the Appalachian Mountains, and all interested individuals are encouraged to join in the action.

Boycott Suggestions
(1) It's impossible to boycott every company on the list, so choose
the major ones, those who gave the largest amounts
(especially the Koch Brothers, owners of Georgia Pacific, who
have financed the attacks on public workers).
(2) As a general rule, try to stick with local businesses instead of
national chains.
(3) Don't ruin yourself financially by pulling money from accounts
that are not due yet or selling stock at the wrong time. This is
not intended to punish YOU!
(4) Consider writing letters to businesses you patronize regularly

The only way* to become a registered member of a recognized political party in Ohio is to vote in a partisan primary and select that party's ballot. We're all so used to the duopoly that we forget this aspect of politics. I met one of our members while collecting signatures and I asked her how she happened to pick up a Green Party ballot. She said she went to her polling place and when the poll worker asked her if she wanted a Democrat or Republican ballot, she said in frustration: "what else is there?" and for the first time there was another choice!

The Green Party of Ohio has conducted its biennial convention, nominating presidential candidate Jill Stein with the overwhelming support of the party. The final tally of the voting was: 38 votes for Jill Stein, 2 for Roseanne Barr, 1 for Kent Mesplay and 1 for Dennis Kucinich. (Our members were allowed to write-in a candidate of their choice and that is why we have a vote for Dennis Kucinich, who is not a Green.)
